Community 2000 Scholarship Mission
Community 2000 Education Foundation
The Community 2000 Education Foundation is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) multi-community, charitable organization focused on building educational endowments and simultaneously funding scholarships, educational project grants, and two kinds of student awards. The Foundation was incorporated in the spring of 2000, and it has evolved into an organization that supports six distinct endowments with funds managed by the Professional Planning Group or the RI Foundation. Five of the six endowments exceed $200,000, and the aggregate value of the six endowments is approaching three million dollars.
Financial support for Community 2000 comes from a combination of spring and fall golfing events, grants and individual contributions. The typical range of individual contributions in a given year has been very large – from $5 to more than $20,000. Total annual Community 2000 revenue has grown steadily since 2000 and is typically $150,000-$200,000.
In addition to being a non-profit organization, it is the intention of the founders that the efforts of the Foundation and the various expenses associated with the activities of the Foundation be the result, to the extent feasible, of volunteer fund raising or "pro bono" donations of skills and expertise.
Community 2000 Need Based Scholarships
The goal of Community 2000-Dollars for Scholars Scholarship is to offer students in the towns of Charlestown, Hopkinton and Richmond the opportunity to further their education by providing financial assistance in the form of scholarships to worthy individuals. Many of the scholarships are for up to four years thereby providing the student continued support throughout their undergraduate term.
Community 2000 Student Awards
A separate Community 2000 Awards endowment provides two kinds of student awards: (1) the Chariho Career-development Portfolio awards, which are one-time, $1,000 awards to graduating Chariho seniors who have demonstrated an exceptional effort in researching and making a career choice, and (2) the Maddie Potts Spirit of Community Leadership awards that are given every June to Chariho students who have shown the special inclusive leadership qualities that Maddie Potts provided.
Chariho Community Educational Projects (CCEP) Mission
Most of us can remember a parent, teacher, class, or coach whose special efforts, guidance, and inspiration made "a difference " in our education and our lives. The goals of CCEP is to offer Chariho Regional School District teachers, support personnel, administrators, students, or parents a tool to use as they endeavor to encourage a stimulating atmosphere of excellence in education and lifelong learning. CCEP funding is intended to supplement existing, budgeted funds. It provides "early support" from the private sector for ideas, opportunities and services that will substantially advance the educational process throughout the Chariho Regional School District.
