PresidentĠs Letter Dear Community 2000 Friends: As I
write to you nearing the end of our 12th year, weĠre seeing the
results of a tough economy -- the number
of Community 2000 donations and the dollars received to date suggest that we
will be down significantly in both from 2010. Since momentum is a significant part
of our vision (we still hope someday to have 2000 annual contributors), weĠre
asking for a year-end contribution that is comfortable for your budget with
the hope we will again reach the 500 total contributions figure that we
achieved for the first time last year.
If you have already given this year, we ask that you consider an
additional contribution so that we can continue our efforts to grow
scholarship and educational project awards, helping future community leaders
and raising the quality of education in the Chariho schools. Not
all is doom and gloom! We
have another great group of 29 scholarship winners as usual, one tool award
to a deserving carpentry student, and the CCEP Golf Tourney in September set
a record for income after expenses of more than $32,000 despite having
significantly fewer players from 2010
--
meaning that we did a great job of reducing expenses and
setting a record for tee sponsorships.
And, weĠre still optimistic that we will see a significant year-end
rally in the Market, which would be very welcome in pushing our endowments to higher
levels. The
2010 Strategic Project that we funded was an electronic classroom in the
Charlestown Elementary School. It has been a great success, and over time we
hope to fund electronic classrooms in all four of the elementary
schools. WeĠre just about to fund
the fall round of Innovative and Strategic Project Grants -- more about these when I send
our annual letter in March. As
always, weĠre happy to hear from you with questions by phone (401 322 1182)
or email (jchrisphilips@aol.com).
Wishing you and your family a very happy holiday season,
Christopher Philips President, Community 2000
