NELSON MANDELA

OUR FOUNDER

In Memoriam

Community 2000 owes its existence to J. Christopher Philips. Chris, a retired chemist and Charlestown resident, incorporated the foundation in early 2000 and began his vigorous, tireless, and now renowned fundraising efforts. That spring, Community 2000 was able to award two scholarships of $1000 each to two graduating seniors from the class of 2000. Thanks to Chris’s continued energy, enthusiasm, and vision for the youth of Charlestown, Hopkinton, and Richmond, the foundation’s endowments have grown exponentially since. While Chris can never be replaced, Community 2000 will continue growing in new directions as the foundation explores strategic and innovative ways to support the local education community.

We are honored to be the “handshake” between donors and students and thrilled to introduce you to some of our local scholars.

Led by Minli Lusher, Chariho Chinese is more than a class—it’s a global adventure! Students  experience language through vibrant traditions, contemporary culture, and hands-on exploration. By mastering linguistic skills and gaining deep intercultural insight, students become world-ready leaders,  embracing new perspectives, and building their future in the global community.
